The Frontier Room at the museum provides a unique learning opportunity for students of all ages.
Here, students from grades 3 through 5 are introduced to the science of our exhibit. Words like erosion, preservation, and magnetometer will take on new meaning as the students learn what these terms mean in the context of artifact recovery and conservation. In addition to their private classroom experience in the Frontier Room, this approximately 2-hour course includes a museum tour and a visit to our preservation lab.
The older students in grades 6-8 are afforded a chance to clean items from the Arabia collection. Teaming up into pairs, students work together to clean the items and record on paper the work they are doing. This approximately 2-to-3-hour course includes a museum tour and a visit to our preservation lab.
In addition to our youth student-training program, the Frontier Room is frequently used for adult education classes. Here, a continuing education class from a local university is meeting to provide educational credit-hour requirements for their adult students.
